Room (2015)    -DRAMA

Directed By Lenny Abrahamson

Hey lovelies (: , I watched ‘Room’ on Sunday and was wondering for a while if I should do a review because it can’t really help anyone if noone reads it right? … But eventually I thought Eh, why not? So here it is!
A quick review of ‘Room’ (No spoilers)

Basic Info:
Room is based on a novel by Emma Donoghue.
The whole movie centers around a kidnapped mother-Joy (Brie Larson) and son-Jack (Jacob Tremblay), who make a daring escape, and experience a dramatic homecoming provoking a look into the power of imagination and the true magnitude of a mother’s love.

Jack is a spirited 5-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted mother. Like any good mother, Ma completely dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like any other family. Their life, however, is anything but typical–they are trapped–confined to a 10-by-10-foot space that Ma has euphemistically named Room. Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that, even in this horrible environment, Jack is able to live a complete and fulfilling life and he will not be limited in any way. But as Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.

My thoughts:
My initial thought after watching this movie was WOW… This was mainly because it had been an extremely long time since I last watched a movie in which the actors had such great talent and skill which actually left me pondering about life for a few moments after it. It had also been a long time since I watched a movie which handled delicate issues such as kidnapping and mental health so well.

This movie absolutely captivated me and opened my eyes… From the moment I watched it to now I am constantly questioning things. The character development was great, and Jack was an absolute sweetheart! His optimism and bright outlook on life just warmed my heart. Even though he had been dealt some of the worst possible cards in life, his gratefulness was palpable and it was adorable. Ma was also a great character, the emotion in some of her scenes was so poignant and genuine. I almost felt as if the characters were real… And when you get that feeling, that’s when you know you’ve just watched a hell of a movie! If anyone is wondering whether to watch this movie or not, I strongly recommend you watch it. You won’t regret it.

Favourite quote from the movie:

Jack:

When I was four, I didn’t even know about the world, and now me and ma are going to live in it forever and ever until we’re dead. This is a street in a city in a country called America, and earth. That’s a blue and green planet, always spinning, so I don’t know why we don’t fall off. Then, there’s outer space. And nobody knows where’s heaven. Ma and I have decided that because we don’t know what we like, we get to try everything. There are so many things out here. And sometimes, it’s scary, but that’s okay, because it’s still just you and me.

Overall rating:  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ( 4 out of 5 stars)
